in my bag
i was documenting my mess of yoga sequences, yoga books, snacks and other yoga related paraphanelia that i roll around with these days when birdie came by to insert herself. i was going to post a different photo, one of just my bag, but this actually seemed more accurate. this cat is into everything all the time. she has figured out how to open most of our cupboards, and our closet. if you open a door or a cupboard you are immediately lifting a cat out of it. if you turn on the tv, there is a cat right in front of it examining the action.
plus i couldn't resist the chance to make a horrible joke. the cats in the bag!

it's been unusually misty for the past few days. the mist in the air coupled with the freezing temperatures is coating everything in ice. it is so beautiful - everything looks frosted. it's icy, slippery and freezing cold but zephyr and i have been hiking as much as possible, trying to enjoy the beauty while it lasts.

i'm doing a cleanse to shake off the sugar frenzy of the holidays and get focused on health right off the bat in 2015. russ gifted me a juice cleanse from wonderpress, a cold press juicery in boulder near the studio. i'm obsessed with their juices. to ease into it i've been doing alot of soups and salads. this recipe was surprisingly delicious so i decided to share it in case anyone else out there was also pressing the reset button on their diet.
"cream" of broccoli soup
you will need:
avocado oil (2 glugs)
half an onion (about one cup diced)
one glove of garlic, minced
one large head of broccoli cut into smaller florets
1/3 cup raw cashews (soak for 1/2 an hour before use)
1 cup almond milk
1 cup water
juice of 1/2 a lemon
saute the onion in the avocado oil over medium/high heat until translucent (about 4 minutes)
add the garlic and cook about 1 minute longer, stirring
add broccoli and cook until bright green, stirring occasionally (about 5 minutes)
pour in almond milk and water, if you want this to be creamier you can sub almond milk for water
bring to just boiling and then lower the heat
cover and gently simmer until the broccoli is soft (about 8-10 minutes)
carefully transfer to a food processor or high powered blender, vent lid so steam can escape
blend, slowly adding cashews until the whole mixture is smooth
garnish each bowl with lemon juice and enjoy

wow 2014. wow. i am not at all sorry to see you go. i haven't had so many unexpected outside forces dictate the course of my life in a very long time. we weathered your storms, rolled with your punches, and hopefully emerged stronger and wiser - time will tell truly.
of course this year wasn't without its good times, and it's blessings. after all my journeys and ramblings and taking the very very long way home, i finally made it back to colorado. it's hard to describe the pull of the mountains on the mountain born. i see them in my dreams, on the backs of my eyelids. i follow the play of light on their cliffs and faces over days and seasons. although i am on the wrong side of them i am still near them. my heartbeat has never been one of waves and water, it was always one of stone and wood.
2014 we did our best, put down roots, worked our hardest. still i am looking forward eagerly with a positive and hopeful heart. i know that all homes may be temporary but for now i am here, i am home, i am ready to offer all that i have and receive some goodness.
