slippin

i climbed out on the ice in my snowshoes to get a picture of john as he climbed an ice waterfall with his axes and spikes. immediately upon stepping on the ice i slipped and fell and slid towards the edge of the cliff. we had just been talking about what to do when you slip on ice - which is take up as much space as you can. i fell and somehow remembered this. i spread out wide and pressed hands, feet, head, everything into the ice, hard. i skidded to a stop right before going over into the abyss. everytime i tried to move though, i slipped again.  so i just had to lay there until john came over with his spikes and dragged me off. he took a pic first though, naturally.

it was scary. but i lived.

I knew the ice was too thick to break, but I admit, I was still nervous.

it's been unusually misty for the past few days.  the mist in the air coupled with the freezing temperatures is coating everything in ice.  it is so beautiful - everything looks frosted.  it's icy, slippery and freezing cold but zephyr and i have been hiking as much as possible, trying to enjoy the beauty while it lasts.
